Our MBA for healthcare professionals is designed to help you move up in hospital management, shift into healthcare administration, or confidently establish a practice of your own.

Dr. Jillian Yarbrough, Clinical Assistant Professor of Management & Virginia Engler Professor of Business

The Biggest Gap in Healthcare Leadership: Business Skills

Many healthcare professionals know medicine inside and out. But leading people, managing budgets, and making business decisions requires a different toolkit - one most haven't been formally trained in.

  • You want to move into management, but don't have the business training to compete
  • You see opportunities to improve efficiency and patient outcomes, but you're not in the position to lead those changes
  • You would like to start your own practice, but don't feel prepared to handle the business side

The Solution: A Healthcare MBA That Fills the Gap

Our online healthcare MBA is designed to give you the business expertise and confidence you need to lead in today's complex healthcare environment. Where clinical training leaves off, our program steps in.

Graduates of our MBA in Healthcare Management are prepared for roles often associated with an MBA in Healthcare Administration, such as hospital administrator, healthcare operations manager, or director of clinical services.

Becky Warren Healthcare MBA Student

I had a Master's in Psychology and worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor for 10 years when my boss asked for help managing our department's budget. I had not background in business or accounting, so when I discovered the MBA in Healthcare Management, I decided to pursue it. The program was excellent. I started as a novice and finished with a strong understanding of business operations, financial planning, and strategic leadership. Today, I oversee all health-related budgets, coordinate emergency funding for students, and assist other departments with financial management. These are all opportunities made possible by my MBA.

Frequently Asked Questions

You set the pace. Many of our students are nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and hospital administrators with unpredictable schedules, so the program is built to adapt. Study full-time or part-time, add summer classes to move faster, or skip them when life or work gets busy. Most complete their MBA in 18-24 months while continuing their careers in healthcare.

We offer four semesters each year:
- Fall – Late August – November
- Spring – Mid-January – April
- Summer 1 – June – early July
- Summer 2 – Mid-July – late August

WT also offers May and Winter Intersessions, though the College of Business rarely uses them because of their length. Summer classes are optional, accelerated sessions - a great way to move through the program faster, but they are not required.

Absolutely. Most of our students are full-time professionals balancing work and family. With courses designed in a flexible, asynchronous format and a manageable 10-15 hours per week per class, you can keep your career moving forward while you study.

If you don't have a business background, you may need up to three leveling courses to cover basics like accounting, statistics, and finance. Our Graduate Admissions Team will review your transcripts and let you know exactly what's required. Most healthcare professionals in our program already took a statistics course in their undergraduate studies, so that requirement is often waived. Any remaining leveling courses are simply added to your MBA plan.

Our online Healthcare MBA program is asynchronous - no set class times. You'll complete readings, lectures, and assignments on your schedule, with deadlines to keep you on track.

You'll need a 4-your bachelor's degree, or integrated master's or doctoral degree such as a PharmD from a regionally accredited institution with a 3.0 GPA to qualify for admission with no GMAT required.

Not if you meet one of these conditions:
  • 3.0 GPA or higher on your completed bachelor’s degree
  • 3.0 GPA in your last 60 credit hours of your bachelor’s
  • Completion of a master’s degree or doctoral degree (M.D., Pharm.D., D.P.T., D.D.S., etc)
  • 10+ years of progressive professional experience after your bachelor’s

Our program is officially called an MBA in Healthcare Management, but it prepares you for the same leadership roles many associate with an MBA in Hospital Administration and Healthcare Management. Graduates are ready for careers in hospital leadership, healthcare administration, and practice management for clinics or private practices.

No. Your diploma will simply say "West Texas A&M University." It carries the same weight and AACSB-accredited credibility as an on-campus MBA. Whether you share that it was earned online is completely up to you.

Yes – you can take a semester off, and many students do. Life happens, whether it’s a job change, a busy season at work, or big life changes like welcoming a new baby or moving into a new home. If you skip a Fall or Spring semester, you’ll just complete a quick re-entry process before resuming classes. If you skip a Summer term, no extra steps are needed – you’ll remain an active part of the program.

The first step is simple: Request your free Preadmission Degree Plan. You'll see exactly which courses you'll need, whether any leveling is required, and if you qualify for a no GMAT admission. From there, applying is quick and fully online.
